CTA Red and Purple Line Modernization wants your thoughts today!

Today February 18, 2011 is the deadline to submit comments on the CTA Red and Purple line modernization scenarios. Take a look at the page for more information. Email comments to RPM@transitchicago.com .

The CTA is considering six scenarios including consolidating or closing stations at Jarvis, Lawrence, Thorndale stations on the red line and South and Foster on the Purple line. Anyone can comment so if you use these stations now is the time to weigh in. I live near the Jarvis stop so I am very opposed to the CTA even considering closing my station. As I thought about all of the arguments to make to CTA, the most persuasive argument was the surrounding businesses and local economic development. There are nearly 20 local businesses around the station. The Reconnecting America study called "Capturing the Value of Transit" shows property values that increase up to 20% within 1,000 feet of the station. Closing Jarvis would close 20 businesses, prevent additional opportunities for TOD and permanently shut down a source of city revenue. Also CTOD's database is great resource for playing around with station area data like businesses and jobs.

Comments will be accepted until February 18, 2011 and may be submitted by mail, e-mail or fax, with attention to:
