The next public meeting for the Belmont station art will be Jan. 27, 6 p.m. at Ann Sather, 909 W. Belmont. The next Fullerton station art meeting will be Jan. 29.

The problem with this art is

The problem with this art is that it is all "establishment." Nothing provocative, nothing outside what is acceptable to and comfortable for the powers-that-be.

Why isn't the process opened up to street artists and street art, without a ridiculously cumbersome application process with all reviewers being insiders with the CTA, the hopelessly stale Chicago Public Art Commission, local aldermen or the Mayor?

Elaborater -- it's probably

Elaborater -- it's probably not as open and provocative because not enough people show up at meetings like this to ask for that. it would be great if more residents showed some interest, but not many people came to the last meeting. several people, myself included, did ask for "street art" for Belmont though, and from what i've seen from other stations, there do seem to be a couple of pieces by street artists sprinkled in among the more boring stuff. maybe my taste is stale, but i did really like this work: http://www.chicago-l.org/arts/artwork/images/california-douglas_art01.jp... maybe not exactly provocative, but at least more interesting than the usual.

spread the word about the meeting -- hopefully more people will show up for this one.
