About Me

I started Carfree Chicago because I wanted to make it easier for the one million carfree Chicagoans to get around the region by foot/bike and transit. I grew up in Maryland, moved to Chicago in 2002, and went carfree in 2003. One day I had an itch to get outside the city for a hike in the woods, and I realized that all of the directions to area destinations online were by car. I decided I'd try to fill the hole in information by helping others share and find information about living carfree.

In my professional life, I've worked at the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) since 2005, primarily managing the membership and chapter programs. Prior to CNU, I worked as communications and development associate at Illinois Action for Children, as an editor at PR Newswire and an event coordinator at the Department of Culture in Neuss, Germany. I have a BA in English from James Madison University in Virginia.
